Bragança, located in Trás-os-Montes, is a city where history, culture and nature merge in harmony. Known for its deep roots, human occupation in the region dates back to the Paleolithic period, with communities consolidated in the Neolithic period, the remains of which are preserved in the Abade de Baçal Museum. During the Suevi and Visigothic periods, the rural and pastoral economy grew stronger, with the introduction of rye and community practices that shaped medieval society. Bragança received the title of city in 1464, driving its growth in the 16th to 18th centuries, visible in the architecture of churches, convents and emblazoned houses. Silk processing, stimulated by the Jewish presence, stood out as a central economic activity, and the city’s toponymy reflects historic trades such as silversmiths, bell makers and potters.

In the 20th century, the arrival of the railroad and, later, freeway and air links connected Bragança to the rest of the country and to Spain, consolidating it as a strategic cross-border point.
